Summer Reading Program

Unearth a Story Banner

What is the Summer Reading Program?

Our Summer Reading Program is an engaging literacy initiative that runs from June 10th through July 22nd this year. The Summer Reading Program offers themed activities, reading challenges, and hands-on events for all ages.

The theme for this summer is “Unearth a Story!” Whether readers are digging into a good book, uncovering hidden histories, or exploring the past, the slogan underscores the joy of discovery that reading brings. It also emphasizes that every person and every community has stories waiting to be found and shared—through books, programs, and local knowledge.

Dinosaurs, paleontology, and archaeology are high-interest areas for children and families and offer rich opportunities to spark curiosity, imagination, and learning across all age groups.

How It Works:

When you complete each reading challenge, participate in a library activity, or attend a library program, you can earn an entry into the raffle for a chance to win a grand prize at the Grand Finale on July 22nd!

  1. Stop in to the library and grab any of the reading challenges between June 10th and July 22nd. Individuals of all ages can participate in any of the challenges. When you complete a challenge, you can take another of the same challenge or try a different one. You can take more than one type of challenge at a time. When you turn in a completed reading challenge, you win a small prize! The challenges are listed below:
    • “Unearth a Story” bingo cards
    • Britannica Education “Can You Dig It?” bingo cards
    • Book Rating & Review cards
    • Bookmark reading logs
  2. Read anything and as much as you’d like! Books, graphic novels, comic books, magazines, eBooks, audiobooks, movie subtitles, etc., all count towards your reading challenges! Record your reading in your “Unearth a Story” reading log book to look back on all you have accomplished this summer.
  3. You can earn extra entries for the prize drawing by attending Summer Reading programs and filling out a quick survey on an entry ticket after each event!
